During any stage of pregnancy – but especially toward the latter parts – expectant mothers can end up experiencing back pain. While the level will differ from mother to mother, it can range from a mild twinge to severe and continuing discomfort.
No matter what level of back pain you suffer from, one of the most important things to do during any pregnancy is to try to remain as stress-free as possible. Staying as comfortable as you can and reducing things like back pain will go a long way to achieving that, and a pregnancy pillow designed to reduce back pain can be a valuable tool.

Best Pregnancy Pillow Reviews
1. Puredown U Shaped Pregnancy Pillow
This pillow from Puredown is another full-body model. It has also been designed with some additional multipurpose features, however, making it a product that can serve multiple functions.
Review
The first thing to note with this product is that it is huge. Measuring an incredible 32 by 56 inches, this really is a monster-size pillow that you can happily sink into. In addition to that fact, however, it also brings a number of other useful features and designs.
It has an exceptionally ergonomic design to provide a true level of comfort. What that means is that it has a very adjustable, U-shaped design. This means that you can easily move the pillow to provide the support you need.
Because of the size and adjustability of the pillow, it also has a multipurpose element to it. After you have given birth, for example, you can use the pillow as a comfortable back prop so you can sit up to breastfeed – even watch TV – in supreme comfort.
The pillowcase is very light in color, so it’s not going to hide stains very well. The case does zip up for easy removal, however, so you can just pop it in the washing machine.
As with the item above, it is a very large product so it will easily take over a smaller bed. It’s also not a cheap option, being the second priciest item on the list.
PROS
- Adjustable, ergonomic design
- Easy to clean
- Multipurpose
CONS
- Massive sized product
- Light color won’t hide stains
- Not cheap
2. PEP STEP Memory Foam Sleeping Pillow
This pillow from PEP STEP is a far simpler design than what we have looked at so far. That being said, however, it does contain a number of useful features – but as a somewhat basic design, does it bring enough to help you sleep?
Review
A very simple design, this is a traditional lumbar-support pillow. Essentially a slab of ridged memory foam, unlike the two pillows we discussed above, it will not provide a full-body level of support or any additional functions.
Instead, this pillow is designed to bring targeted lumbar support. There is nothing wrong with constructing a product so that it performs a single function extremely well, and that is very much what we have here in this product.
The ergonomically designed pillow is designed to fit comfortably under the back to provide support to the lumbar region of your back. As a useful side effect it also provides support to your hips and legs.
The product also boasts a cooling aloe laced cover that feels very nice and will help you to keep cool. It is zip sealed too, which makes it easy to remove for cleaning.
It is also stated that you can use this product as a knee support, however, it’s probably a little too thin to really do that. In fact, in general it is a little thin, and its level of support may be a bit less than some other pillows on this list.
Still, it is primarily designed to perform one function and it performs it admirably.
PROS
- Good quality memory foam filler
- Breathable cover
- Simple design
CONS
- Quite thin
- Single function
3. Cozy Hut Soft Memory Foam Sleeping Pillow
Boasting multiple layers – including medical grade memory foam – this is clearly a premium level lumbar support pillow. With a price tag quite a bit higher than the other single use pillow however, does it bring enough premium features to justify the price?
Review
This is another lumbar support pillow with a very specialized design, however it also has a number of useful features and, most impressively, is constructed of very high-grade materials.
The most important part of a lumbar pillow is of course the filling material so it’s good to see that Cozy Hut have really gone for a premium filler here. The memory foam core is medical grade, meaning it will keep it shape for prolonged periods to provide an excellent level of support. It is also hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant and has anti-bacterial properties – it really is an excellent material.
Over the top of that, we have a supremely soft velour cover. Not only is it is extremely soft though, it is also very durable and provides moisture-wicking properties to help keep you cool. It’s machine washable too, and very easy to remove, so you’ll have no problems keeping it clean.
This is a very well designed pillow that will provide excellent lumbar support during all stages of pregnancy, whilst the strong filler material and durable but comfortable cover ensures that it will be able to carry on providing that support for a long time to come.
It’s the more expensive of the two specialized products on the list but very much worthy of that premium price tag.
PROS
- Medical-grade memory foam
- Soft velour cover
- Large size
CONS
- Expensive
- Quite wide
5. Comfysure Full Body Pregnancy Pillow
Another full body pillow, however this product comes with a price tag significantly lower than the other two similar models on the list. Does it have enough features to stand up to its higher priced brethren?
Review
This is a well-designed full body pillow. Very similar to the two designs at the top of this list, it is designed to provide a degree of support across your entire body. This is, of course, extremely helpful if you’re feeling sore at various points, however it may not provide quite the targeted relief of more premium or specialized products.
Because of its size, it also has a degree of multipurpose use to the design, as like with the others, you can prop yourself up to perform tasks that you need to sit up for, such as breastfeeding, or just a relaxing hour with a book.
This is a lower-priced pillow compared to the two other full body options however. Because of that, certain things have been trimmed back on to reach that lower price tag. For one thing there is no pillowcase or cover, so to clean the pillow you have to put the whole thing in the washing machine. Given that it measures about 28 by 58 inches, that could be easier said than done.
The more damming omission though is that the filling material is not memory foam as used in all the others on the list. Instead, it is plain-old polyester, and that is simply not going to provide the same level of support as some other products on this list.
PROS
- Low price
- Multipurpose
- Ergonomic design
CONS
- Cheap polyester filling
- No pillow case/cover
Conclusion
The best full body pillow is undoubtedly the Customsleeping Full Body Pillow; it is a very well-designed pillow made with premium materials.
The best pillow with a specialized design is the Cozy Hut Soft Memory Foam Sleeping Pillow, which again is made of excellent materials and a design that specially targets the lumbar region for outstanding back support.
